Design

Two years ago, I took a leap of faith, putting down roots by buying my first home. I was excited yet nervous about the massive undertaking of practically gutting a place with zero experience in renovating.

However, I spent nights and weekends prior to the close designing every inch of every room. From the layout to the appliances, from the vanities to the fixtures. Soon, I had my project laid out, keys in hand and I was ready to roll up my sleeves.

For two months, I spent every spare minute as the condo tackling project after project – attempting to get the grand majority of the work done prior to my move in date. There were times of pure joy, like when I finally finished the last coat of poly on the hardwood floors, or when the quartz was installed over the kitchen cabinets I had painstakingly built. There were also moments of utter frustration when things didn’t go as planned – lengthy permit times, pipes bursting, regretting tile choices and asking the installers to take said choices down before the mortar dried.

But these highs and lows taught me the value of patience and persistence.

Every odd colored wall, every inch of old carpet, every dated light fixture, was a challenge, a puzzle to be solved.

Today, it’s not just a house. It’s a testimony to my journey, my passion. It’s home.

A look at my loft before and after renovations.

Just like exploring a new city, every renovation project offers new surprises and insights. But there’s also an indescribable feeling of accomplishment once a project is complete.
